We've Got Blog  
My essay "Portrait of the Blogger as a Young Man," originally published online at FEED, can now be read on paper in We've Got Blog: How Weblogs Are Changing Our Culture. The piece looks at Weblogs as a latter-day version of the Renaissance "cabinet of wonders," chaotic pre-cursors of the museum. It also documents the obsessions of one Jorn Barger, blogger extraordinaire. The problematic Andrew Sullivan, in a Slate dialogue with Kurt Andersen on the significance of blogs, called the essay "amusing." Amuse yourselves.

The Best American Science Writing  
All fourteen of America's rabid popular-science-writing fans will be stalking me now that I have been included in The Best American Science Writing 2002. Actually, they will probably remain at their posts outside the homes of more illustrious figures like Lauren Slater, Atul Gawande, Natalie Angier, and David Berlinski, all also included. The piece reprinted is my "Pirate Utopia" (first published in FEED), an essay on Osama Bin Laden's secret porno-grams and other political fantasies inspired by steganography, the art of concealed communication.
